On April 20, 1999, BBC News reported that 25 people have been killed after two high school students opened fire at at Columbine High School in Colorado, United States. The targets of the attack were athletes and Christians. Heading from the campus and hallways to the cafeteria, they went into the library and continue to shoot at the students, who were attempting to hide. Students were threatened, and although many pleaded with their lives, they were still being gunned down.

A gunman asked if anyone believed in God. Cassie Bernall, a female student, formerly an addict in alcohol, drugs and witchcraft before accepting Christ, answered the call, knowing the fate of other students the killers had talked to. She answered, "Yes, I believe in God." The gunman asked, "Why," but executed her before she could answer. The gunman who shot Cassie approached another girl, Valeen Schnurr, and asked her, "Do you really believe in God?" Having witnessed Cassie's death, she answered, "Yes, I believe in God." She was given 9 shots. But she miraculously survived.

Another christian student held a door open for students to escape, before being shot and killed by the gunmen. He could have fled to safety with the others, but chose to demonstrate the ultimate love of Jesus. Out of love, the teacher stayed to help students escape and eventually rested with the 12 students.
